Ragdoll cats can purr for mainly two reasons. Firstly, they are feeling very happy and comforting and secondly, they want to communicate with you. 

The most likely reason for your ragdoll’s purring is that they are feeling very happy. Ragdolls are known for being the most affectionate cat and loves to spend time with their owners.

They feel safe and happy when they are around their owners and being happy they start purring. So if your cats are purring loudly then it is possible they are very happy. 

The second reason is that your ragdoll cats want to communicate with you. Ragdoll cats love to communicate with their owners. They make a strong bond with their owners and often become vocal and purr to communicate with them and attract their attention.

You can also predict your ragdoll’s mode by watching how aggressively they purr around you.

Ig they purr softly and gently then they feel happy and calm. On the other hand, if they are purring aggressively and if its pointed defending then it is possible that they want something from you.

But except of these two reasons there are many more reasons why ragdoll cats purr e.g. Health issues.

If your cat suffers from any health issue then they can purr unusually. Purring can alleviate the pain and discomfort. It is also noticed that purring has some kind of healing properties and it can help to reduce their pain and blood pressure.

There are many reasons possible that your ragdoll cats do not purr or purr comparatively less. This is not unusual, even we should not forget that each cat has their unique characteristics.

Still, you can encourage your pet to purr by doing some simple things e.g

  • You can pet them in their favorite place
  • You can give them more attention and care
  • Offer them some treats 
  • Grooming and brushing them 
  • Communicate with them with a soothing tone
So, let’s discuss each thing one by one.

Pet them in their favorite place

Ragdoll cats are well known for their friendly, docile nature and they feel happy and peaceful around their owners. They also enjoy family time and find peace around them. They show love and happiness by purring.

But when you find that your ragdoll cats are not purring, it simply means that they are feeling happy and comfortable around you.

Try to pet them at their favorite place so they feel comfortable and happy until they can start purr around you.

Give them more attention and care

Ragdolls are very affectionate and attention-seeking cats. Giving them attention can make them feel happy and make them purr.

You can give them a cuddle (though they are not always cuddly, they love to get cuddled when they are in the mood), or rubbing their belly or scratching their chin can make them purr.

Offer them some treats

Ragdoll purrs when they are happy.  Rewarding them with some gifts or toys or participating in their playing activities makes them happy and it also strengthens the bond between the ragdoll and owners.

Brushing them regularly

Regular grooming like Brushing is a good practice to keep your cat’s fur tip top, silky, and tangle-free.  Brushing can even improve the blood circulation in their body and make them calm. 

But all ragdoll cats don’t like the brushing. So notice their reaction while brushing them. If they start purring that means they are enjoying it.

Communicate with them with a soothing tone

Ragdoll cats are receptive to the tone of the voice. So communicate with them with a soothing and light voice. use a soothing voice can make them relax and happy. This will help them to purr.
